About Bee Gardening

Bee Gardening is a charity set up by Val Younger in 2022 to help make a difference through social and therapeutic horticulture.

The Bee Gardening approach is to empower people through wildlife gardening and growing edible plants.

With a background in teaching and an avid gardener, Val’s mission is to help people fulfill their full potential through horticulture.

“In my 20 years working with children, often with complex special needs as a teacher, I have witnessed first hand the cognitive and therapeutic qualities of various elements of gardening provides for them. A non communicative child can be come animated when engaging in gardening, the repetitive nature of the processes of gardening provides the control required for some individuals, as well as learning physical and social skills to promote self esteem and independent life skills.

The Bee Gardening approach supports the individual with a defined need through a directed approach which could have specific outcomes or a broader holistic approach. Importantly, it will be person centered with extra time to support and learn.

With the garden arrangement, there is a broad spectrum of gardening environments: encompassing flowers and vegetable growing, herbs and medical properties of plants, composting and recycling. The promotion of permaculture and caring for nature is at the centre of education.”
